Elfriede Jelinek’s newest play Sonne/Luft premiered for the first time in Austria at the Schauspielhaus Graz. Director Emre Akal and artist-duo Mehmet & Kazim stages an almost completely computer-generated world of a futuristic space platform. It’s is from this place that the last remains of humanity looks back to what was once planet earth, all whilst they’re constantly monitored by a mysterious AI.
The artistic team explore how one can play with illusion by means of virtual tools.
This longstanding collaboration between Emre Akal and the hiphop and graffiti scene inspired artist-duo Mehmet and Kazim, is joined by costume designer Lara Roßwag. Together they create a world shaped by an innovative and radical aesthetic, which transcends from the analogue reality of the stage into the digital.
