Artificial intelligence – everywhere and in all areas, it is supposed to help us, take work off our hands, be our partner, redeem us. This raises a lot of questions: How does it help? What problems does it solve? What can AI do that we cannot? But above all: What or who is this AI? Should we look forward to it, trust it, ignore it or fear it? – Time to get to know each other. What does artificial intelligence mean for school, education and career choices? What does AI mean for life plans and political decisions? In the ‘Love Work Machine’, participants can actively test the configuration of their own near future. The next level of automation is taking shape and is live.

In ‘Love Work Machine,’ artificial intelligence moderates a 60-minute theatrical game. Up to 60 participants aged 13 to 99+ play directly with the machine and jointly shape their vision of the near future of work and society, which is rapidly changing due to artificial intelligence. Through dialogue and interaction with the machine, participants gain insights into a world in which machines will not only catch up with humans, but may even render them superfluous. The focus is on questions about the meaningful function of work and social coexistence in the face of fundamental changes in modern industrial societies.

The production ‘Love Work Machine’ is a collaboration between the Salzburg Chamber of Labour, the ARGEkultur cultural centre and the artistic team.

Lajos Talamonti und Georg Werner have been working on participatory formats for many years, designing analogue and digital game formats and interactive installations. With ‘Love Work Machine’, they have applied this new technology to their own work process as artists. All applications in this setup are local applications that can be replicated by the participants. This approach is intended to strengthen the participants' self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation to actively engage with this technology. Following the game, the artists engage in a dialogue with the participants.
