Suit your body

by Frauen und Fiktion [Berlin]
Theater computer game in German language
40 minutes

I often find myself in spaces in which I’m faced with the concept »overweight«, and I ask myself which »over« are we really talking about? »over-good«, »over-virtuous«, »over-what«? Why is this »over« even necessary? – Natalie Rosenke

Frauen und Fiktion’s (FuF's) »SUIT YOUR BODY« questions the societal beauty standards. Based on an interview with Natalie Rosenke, expert in the field of weight bias, FuF creates a space where all bodies are welcome.

A choir of women leads us towards the resonance chamber of our own body, past the echo chambers of body hatred. The voices create ONE body which breathes, speaks and expresses itself loudly; a Body that asks questions, seeks answers, but also relays unusual stories which could be (the new) normal. A liberated choir body, that sounds together, sings with a full voice and reclaims words such as ‘fat’. A most beautiful collective body, which in the end intends to merge with the public (and become one).

The competition of the bodies will temporarily dissipate and a new perspective practiced. Through active and compassionate listening we discover a lot that we painfully miss, and thus find a beauty that liberates us from the pressure of imperfection. With this ode of diversity still resounding we then float away and apart with ease and lightness.
The festival presents a browser version of the play: the events unfold in a freely accessible virtual space - half theater, half bathing establishment.
