[EOL]. End of Life
A virtual ruinscape

DARUM (Victoria Halper & Kai Krösche) [Austria]
Virtual reality performance

90 minutes

What do abandoned virtual places feel like? How much life is there in the digital image of the deceased? Who am I in the presence of the absent? And what has no place in the future metaverse of large corporations? With “[EOL]. End of Life”, the DARUM takes a look into a potential, not-too-distant future using the young medium of virtual reality.

As freelancers for the fictitious trillion-dollar corporation IRL (Imaginary Reality Landscapes), the audience takes on the role of those who will determine which content will have a place in the flourishing virtual parallel worlds of tomorrow -- and which will be irretrievably deleted. In doing so, “[EOL]. End of Life” confronts its virtual travelers with a multitude of accessible, three-dimensional worlds and no less a number of human traces. For in the decaying metaverse, the digital echo of past existences awaits - and with it the question of how we want to be remembered.
